Versaperm Advanceds Vapour Permeability Testing for Valves and Seals

Vapour Permeability Testing for Valves and Seals

Materials designed to seal liquids often still allow water vapour or chemical vapours to permeate. Versaperm, a leader in material testing and permeability analysis, has introduced enhanced capabilities for evaluating vapour permeability in valves and seals. Using the Versaperm Mass Spectrometer, engineers can now accurately control and measure vapour transfer under extreme conditions, with temperatures ranging from −80°C to 1100°C and pressures from 0 to 300 bar.

These capabilities open new possibilities for component design. By understanding how vapour interacts with seals and valves, manufacturers can develop systems that allow controlled venting of gases and moisture while maintaining liquid-tight integrity. This is essential for pressure relief applications, preventing condensation within enclosures and managing moisture in sensitive chemical or pharmaceutical systems. The system also helps designers eliminate condensation inside devices and avoid unwanted vapour leakage.

The Versaperm Mass Spectrometer provides reliable evaluation of materials under real operating conditions, ensuring that valves and seals perform safely and efficiently even in the most demanding thermal and pressure environments.

"Vapour permeability plays a crucial role in the performance and longevity of valves and seals," said Chris Roberts, Technical Director of Versaperm. "An example is membrane-enhanced seals with selective vapour permeability, which can vary from vapour to vapour. This is critical for microvalves in lab-on-a-chip devices and in fuel or chemical systems requiring vapour recovery."

Versaperm’s vapour permeability measurement systems are fast, accurate and easy to use, giving engineers the tools to design smarter, safer systems and to understand how vapour moves through materials under extreme conditions. Its advanced testing solutions are transforming the design and evaluation of valves and seals across industries including oil and gas, chemical processing, aerospace and pharmaceuticals, helping engineers achieve both safety and efficiency in their systems.

In addition to manufacturing its equipment, Versaperm also offers a comprehensive sample testing service and consultancy.
